Official: UralChem to participate in privatization of Zimbabwean firm

HARARE, Oct 29 (PRIME) -- Russian fertilizer producer UralChem plans to participate in privatization of Zimbabwean company Chemplex, Chairman of the Board of Directors Dmitry Mazepin told reporters on Monday.

“We have agreed that the company will prepare for privatization. The government of Zimbabwe will prepare a data-room which will contain all data of the company. We were informed that there is interest from 26 local and international companies, and UralChem will be one of the companies which will participate in privatization of Chemplex,” Mazepin said.

The purchase of the asset would satisfy PhosAgro’s demand for phosphorous, he said.

UralChem will ship about 12,000 tonnes of fertilizers to Zimbabwe until the end of the year and hopes to raise the amount to several hundred thousand in 2019, Mazepin said.

In the long run, UralChem wants to establish a hub in Zimbabwe to export fertilizers to other African states.
